1. Superman Statue

The enormous statue at the center of Metropolis serves as a visible reminder of the city’s lengthy and fascinating history.

The 1993 installation of this 15-foot Superman monument was meant to serve as the gateway of a Superman theme park.

When the theme park failed, the residents of Metropolis paid for a fiberglass statue seven feet tall. The statue was unveiled in November 1986.

Then, the three-ton, 15-foot-tall Superman statue arrived to replace the previous one, which the residents of Metropolis had also purchased. About $120,000 was spent on the statue.

Interestingly, the company that made the Superman monument also constructed the enormous Emmy in front of the Hollywood Television Hall of Fame.

In November 2020, Superman status received a new coat of paint. It’s expected to last at least until 2040.

The Lois Lane Statue is also known as the Noel Neill Statue. At the intersection of 8th and Market streets, two blocks from the enormous Superman statue, lay a life-sized statue of Lois Lane.

The late Noel Neill, who played the famous role in the “Adventures of Superman,” served as the model for the sculpture of Lois Lane.

In June 2010, the Noel Neill statue was inaugurated. She was a fervent supporter of Metropolis.

The monument depicts Lois Lane gazing up at Superman as he soars above.
