The mansion was erected for Colonel Harvey Vaile and Sophia, his wife, in the year 1881 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.

The mansion is a perfect example of Second Empire architecture with a design inspired by a building located in Normandy, France. It was built by Asa Beebe Cross, one of the cities most famous architects.

The Vaile Mansion was constructed using materials that catch the eye like red bricks, slate shingles on the mansard roofs, limestone moldings, and bracketed cornices.

The initial construction covered more than 630 acres of land space and featured an apple orchard, a vineyard, a big wine cellar, and a wine processing plant.

Presently, the property occupies about 5.6 acres of space and is a notable attraction in Kansas City, which has lots of state-of-the-art facilities and a lovely vintage charm.
