No other tree species can survive in such a difficult environment, so by default, the silver maple ends up as the winner. 

The floodplain offers a natural sanctuary for people and wildlife, including beavers, turtles, migratory waterfowl, and other birds like orioles, ospreys, bald eagles, rose-breasted grosbeaks, and pileated woodpeckers. 

The trail is best visited from March to October. Dogs are allowed, but they have to be on a leash. 

The trail may not be accessible for guests using wheelchairs or mobility equipment due to its narrowness. Guests using strollers may require all-terrain tires.
