You will find the Museum where it is located at the wheat warehouse. The wheat warehouse is a century old and was once the place where all the wheat leaving from Tacoma by ship is stored before shipping.

Established by Harold LeMay a very wealthy Tacoma business mogul. Before he died, LaMay owned the largest private Car collection one the world. He has more than 3,500 cars.

Today, this 350 of these cars can be seen in LeMay-America’s Car Museum. These 350 cars are from different eras and different manufacturers.

Some of the cars you will see here include race cars from Lotus and Ferrari. You will also find a 1953 Citroen, a 1926 Ford Model T pickup, a 1913 Daimler, a 1966 Ford Mustang, a 1929 Cadillac, and a 1932 Packard.

Fort Nisqually was the base of the farming and fur trading operations of the Hudson’s Bay Company when they expanded to the west coast of North America. And this is one of Tacoma tourist attractions.

The fur trade waves in the year 1869 after local turmoil forced the Fort to close down.

It was only in the 1930s that the fort was restored. The restoration was due to Roosevelt’s New Deal employment initiative.

You will find two of the fort’s original buildings (the granary and the keeper’s house) still standing.

The building which were added to the original structure includes a kitchen, a kitchen garden, a dwelling house and a blacksmith’s shop which is still functional.

5. Tacoma Glassblowing Studio

The Tacoma Glassblowing Studio is a venture established in the year 2006 and is run by a husband-and-wife team.

The venture offers art classes which you will love to enroll in. These classes are booked months before the actual date because of the quality of the classes.

Among the classes they offer are: you have the 1-day workshops, the 4-weeks and the 6-week classes. There are also private lessons which last for 2 or 4 hours.

6. Job Carr House Museum

Job Carr was a restless man who lived in New Jersey in the 1810s. He was in the Union Army for about three (3) years where he was known for his strong abolitionist views.

After he got seriously wounded in a battle, he moved to Indiana, then to Iowa. When he learnt that the government have authorized the building of a railroad to the Pacific Northwest he sold his land and moved to the area that later became Tacoma in 1864.

Job Carr is the first European settler in this area and when he got to the area, he built a cabin under a cedar bark shelter known today as Job Carr House Museum. His only companion in this shelter was a cat named Tom. This cabin is today one of Tacoma tourist attraction and worth visiting during your stay in Tacoma.

In recognition of Job Carr, a reproduction of the cabin which he built in the mid-19th century is found in Tacoma today. The cabin is furnished with 19th-century antiques.

Children can play with the customs and old-time toys which can be found in the cabin. Visit to the cabin is free.

7. Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum

The private collection of manuscripts found in this museum were amassed by two California real estate magnates, David and Marsha Karpeles.

These collections are out on display in seven different locations across the United States of which one of them is Tacoma.

The main reason why they established Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum is to stimulate cultural literacy. This move was further enhanced by making the manuscripts accessible to anyone interested. Admission to the museum is free.

The museum in Tacoma is housed as a large Greco-Roman building which is located just across Wright Park. This one was founded in 1983.

Sitting on a 71-acre, the Tacoma Nature Centre is a nature preserve that has a snake lake and wetlands. There are a lot of Tacoma activities here and its worth making one of the top things to do in Tacoma today.

Located right inside Tacoma, Washington, Five Mile Drive and its trails are in Point Defiance Park on Puget Sound.

It has two loops, the inner look of the park is for Vehicles while the outer look is open to cyclists and pedestrians only.

The well-marked trails range from 1/4 mile to a distance of 4 and 1/2 miles. These trails pass through beaches, cliffs, a beautiful garden of rhododendrons, and an old-growth forest.

While you take a hike on these trails, you will come across views of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, Puget Sound and Vashon Island. You will also see some animals running around the park.

Warning: You are not allowed to feed them. If you do, you will pay a hefty fine.

12. LeMay Family Collection

Two natives of Washington, Harold and Nancy LeMay built a very successful refuse business. They collected garbage from five counties in the state.

Through this refuse business, they assembled the largest private car collection in the world. Part of this collection is in America’s Car Museum while the majority of them are at Marymount.

Marymount was a boy’s military academy which existed between 1919 to 1975. It was run by the Sisters of St. Dominic.

Marymount was sold to the LeMay’s in the 1980s. At all times, you will find at least 500 cars on display in this place.

Apart from cars, you will find trucks, buses, motorcycles, military vehicles, motor homes and customized vehicles. The museum also holds a charity auction every year and it is overseen by Nancy LeMay.

13. Mount Rainier National Park

Opened in the year 1899, the Mount Rainier National Park is the fifth national park that was created by William McKinley.

14. Chihuly Bridge of Glass

Named after a Native of Tacoma, Dale Chihuly, who became famous as a result of his unique glass creations.

The Chihuly Bridge of Glass is about 500-foot long and it is between the Interstate 750 and the Foss Waterway. This partially covered bridge is just for pedestrians.

The glass bridge also serves as a link from the Museum of Glass to Tacoma’s downtown and the Museum Row.

In the covered part of the bridge, you will find the Seafoam Pavilion – a ceiling installment that had over 2,000 glass objects.

From the uncovered spots, you can see the coral reef which is right below. Down the bridge, you will find towers made out of blue translucent crystals. You will also see the Venetian Row which is an 80-foot walk made from 109 glass sculpture. The Venetian Row is the final installation on the bridge.

In the museum, you will find permanent collections of Glass art made in the 20th and 21st centuries.

In the park, you will find a nice ocean beach, an off-leash dog park, an aquarium, a zoo, a boardwalk, hiking trails, an old-growth forest with Douglas Firs which is more than 450 years old, a marina, and a boathouse.
