On the upper Deschutes is an impressive 22.5° pitch of the most-known waterway, which may deceive you into thinking it is an easy ride, but that’s not true.

Understand that these waters are class 5 for watercraft, so they are the most dangerous rapids of the whole river system by technical rapids standards. Swimming here is not an easy one!

The trail is a moderately trafficked path open throughout the year, and it is ideal for biking, hiking, running, and walking.

You will see various beautiful natural basins while walking this path; it is an almost entirely forested. Also, watch out for some sculptures that depict native wildlife, such as mule deer, elk, bear, and porcupines.

Fall River Trail features a river – Fall River – easily accessible to everyone with a short 2-mile loop hike to the headwaters and back.

The river has its source from the springs located about a mile west of the trailhead and campground. The still and calm water is a sanctuary for beavers, mountain whitefish, and trout.

The loop trail offers two different paths – the fisherman’s path and the Fall River Trail. For former has multiple fallen trees blocking the trail, but you can consider it a challenge rather than a burden.

In all, Fall River Trail offers plenty of activity options, and you can come with your lunch too. The trail is best used from April until November, and the dogs are also allowed.
