12. The Frank H. Collings’ American Legion Post III

13. 1889 Territorial Schoolhouse

Stephenson Park is a municipal outdoor recreation area and the oldest park in Edmond, OK.

There are numerous well-known WPA-built hints in Stephenson Park. Even though no placards or concrete etchings say “WPA,” the conventional bridge and wall construction gives it away.

The Park was a WPA project. According to the Edmond Historical Society website, its park’s sloping terrain includes two pedestrian bridges built by the WPA over a minor creek run-off.

The bridges are arched across the stream with stone walls and concrete platforms. The words “1934 / Stephenson Park” are inscribed on concrete plaques on a stone wall at the park’s northwest corner.

The names of the Mayor, Councilmen, Treasurer, Health Superintendent, Clerk, City Manager, and Attorney are listed on three smaller stones that are positioned beneath the larger bridge.

Additionally, Stephenson Park was “enhanced by planting bushes, trees, flowers, and constructing a big center rock garden,” according to the Civil Works Administration (CWA).

The Park offers beautiful architectural and civil engineering features, besides being an incredibly fun and relaxing attraction to spend time in the open air with the family.
